Log a mite count

Apiary Season Tracker: Multi-Hive Inspection, Mite Count, Feeding and Honey Profit Spreadsheet

A spreadsheet that runs a hobby apiary for a whole season. Log inspections, mite counts, syrup feeding, honey harvest and every dollar spent for up to 20 hives, and a dashboard shows each hive on one line: last visit, latest alcohol wash or sugar roll as mites per 100 bees against the Honey Bee Health Coalition's 9th-edition Table 1 threshold for the colony phase you pick, sugar fed, winter stores against your target, honey, and cost and net per hive.

What it does

Every calculation is a live formula, checked against the source examples (HBHC's 12 mites in 300 bees is 4.00%). It records and compares; it gives no treatment advice and diagnoses nothing.

What's included

  • Apiary-Season-Tracker.xlsx: the blank workbook (9 sheets: Start Here, Dashboard, Settings, Hives, Inspections, Mite Counts, Feeding, Harvest, Ledger)
  • Apiary-Season-Tracker-EXAMPLE.xlsx: the same workbook filled with a fictional three-hive season so you can see it working
  • 300 rows each on the inspection, mite, feeding, harvest and ledger sheets; 20 hive slots
  • Dropdowns fed by your hive list, and input checks (dates, whole numbers, pounds)
  • Mite counts: exact whole-number comparison with HBHC Table 1 (Dormant and Population Increase 1%, Population Peak and Population Decrease 2%); flags under-300-bee samples; sticky boards shown as mites a day, trend only, with a short-count flag under 7 days; change since the hive's last wash
  • Inspection fields from UMass and NC State Extension, with a "contact your state apiary inspector" flag when you tick a disease or pest sign
  • Feeding: sugar and ratio (1:1, 2:1, 1:2 by weight) give water, syrup weight, sugar share, cups and cost
  • Dashboard: stores gap against a target you set, a rough gallons-of-2:1-syrup and sugar-pounds figure to close it, honey harvested and sold, revenue, per-hive share of shared costs, net and cost per pound harvested; two charts
  • Sources and limits on the Start Here sheet
